Zoltán Vince Laczó studied jazz perfor
mance at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music
in Budapest, graduating in 1991; he received
his wind orchestral conductor’s qualification
in 1999. As a student of László Marosi, he
attended numerous international courses held
by renowned international professors (e.g.
Bob Gifford, Ronald Johnson, Jan-Magnus
Dahle). He was taught composition by István
Bogár. He completed his military service in
Zrínyi Miklós Military Academy’s Philharmonic
Orchestra. Between 1991 and 1994, he worked
intermittently as a theater musician in Germany.
Between 1994 and 1997, he was a composer of nature and instructional films
and series produced by the Vi-Dok Studio. From 1997 until 2004, he worked as a
music teacher at the Lisznyai Szabó Gábor Music School. He has also been the
musical editor and director at Hungarian Catholic Radio since 2004. In 2007,
he graduated as a religious studies teacher from the Sapientia Theological
College. The topic of his thesis was the history and possible teaching methods
of religious music led by Dr. Áment Lukács, organ artist, and Benedictine Monk.
His works have been regularly performed since 1995 with both Hungarian and
international orchestras: his work entitled Variációk és imrovizációk egy régi magyar
dallamra (Variations and Improvisations on an Old Hungarian Melody) was performed
by the Conservatoire of Sydney’s Big Band at the ISCM World Music Days
event, conducted by Bill Motzing. His Concerto for Tuba was performed in 2012
by Zsolt Koppányi and the Musikkapelle Obersdorf in Germany conducted by
Marius Galvin. His First Symphony was played for a contemporary Hungarian
Evening alongside the works of Ferenc Farkas and Frigyes Hidas in Cordoba,
Argentina in 2016. Since 1998, he has also composed incidental music for
theater and musical plays, which are routinely performed in a variety of theater
performances. He is a member of the Hungarian Composers’ Union, the
Hungarian Jazz Federation, and Artisjus.
