András Derecskei was born in 1982 into
a musical family. He graduated with three
undergraduate degrees from the Liszt Academy
of Music in Budapest: in 2006 with honors in
violin, in 2009 in composition, and in 2012 in
conducting. He earned a further degree at the
University of Arizona in the United States in
2018. He is a three-time award-winner of the
Zoltán Kodály Music Scholarship. Among the
many music competitions, he has participated
in both at home and abroad, awards include
the composition prize from the International
Crossover Competition in 2015 and third prize
with his String Quartet for a Czech competition in 2006. His compositions
are a firm fixture within the Hungarian contemporary classical music scene,
and year on year his works continue to gain recognition on the international
stage. His pieces have already been performed at countless prestigious music
festivals and forums in more than 20 countries around the world.
