Életrajz

Ákos Zarándy began his compositional studies in 2000 as a student of László Draskóczy. In 2006, he graduated from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with a degree in music teaching and choral conducting. He went on to continue his compositional studies there under János Vajda and Zoltán Jeney, graduating in 2009. At his graduation concert, a cross-section of his opera, Las Dos Fridas, was performed by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by László Tihanyi with the participation of soloists Ildikó Szakács and Ágnes Herczku. In 2011, he received creative support from the National Cultural Fund’s One-Act Opera Competition. In the same year, his symphonic work, Nightmare Symphony, was performed at the Béla Bartók Concert Hall (MÜPA) by the Concerto Budapest Orchestra conducted by András Keller and reached the finals of the UMZF Composers’ Competition. Between 2013 and 2018, his works were presented across prestigious concert halls in the region, both at home and abroad. And, in 2014 and 2016, he was awarded the Zoltán Kodály Scholarship. His composition, Tłig, debuted in Denver, in 2016, and his works have been performed with great success around the world, from Austria to France, China to the United States, Sweden to Mexico. In 2018, he held composers’ evenings at the Budapest Music Center’s Library, where the first six scenes of his Japanese-themed chamber opera, Ukihashi, were performed. In 2019, he received a four-year Arts Scholarship from the Hungarian Academy of Arts with his project entitled In the Footsteps of The Microcosm. He regularly participates in contemporary music festivals both across Hungary (Music of Our Time, CAFe Budapest Contemporary Art Festival, Con Spirito, Béla Bartók International Choir Competition, International Bartók Seminar and Festival) and abroad (Gaudeamus Music Week, Ostrava Days). In addition to his work as a composer, he currently teaches composition and music theory at the Béla Bartók Music Secondary School in Budapest. Z
