Életrajz

IST VÁN SZIGETI István Szigeti began his studies in composi tion at the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music in Budapest as a student of Miklós Kocsár. He then went on to the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest to study under Sándor Szokolay, also studying electroacoustic music with Zoltán Pongrácz. Between 1979 and 1982, he was a piano teacher at Vác Music School, and from 1975 until 1982, was musical editor at Hungarian Radio. In 1994, he was appointed artistic director of Hungarian Radio’s Electro acoustic Music Studio (HEAR Studio), and since 2008, has also worked as a freelance composer. Between 1986 and 1989, he headed the Young Composers’ Group in Budapest, was a member of the Hungarian Composers’ Union and sat on the board at the Artisjus. He is also the first president of the László Lajtha Society, and from 2009 to 2010 was also president of the Marcato Studio Music Association. Since 2010, he has also been president of the NobilArt Art Association, as well as artistic director of the ISMEAM (International Summer Meeting of Electroacoustic Music). He sits on the jury of the IMEB and IREM, was a fellow of the Aveiro University (Portugal) in 2002, of the IMEB (Bourges, France) in 2003 and of the GRAME (Lyon, France) in 2004. In 1984, he was awarded the Kodály Scholarship, in 1999 the Lajtha Prize, and in 2000 the Erkel Prize. He was twice awarded the Artisjus Prize and was recipient of Hungarian Radio’s Bench Prize three times. In 1981, his Souvenir de K won a special prize at the International Composers’ Competition at the GMEB Electroacoustic Music Centre in Bourges, and in 1984 his ELKA was chosen by its jury as one of the six most successful compositions ever.
