The association Ensemble Nuove Musiche is organizing a competition aimed at new compositions. The winning scores will be performed as part of the 7th edition of the Festival Internazionale di Musica di Savona, in 2019. Art. 1 - The competition is open to all nationalities with no age limit and with limitless styles of composition. Art. 2 – TYPES OR SCORES The presented compositions must not have received any awards in other competitions, or other call for scores, but they may have already been performed. Published scores may be presented, but they must not incur any monetary cost to the association (editorial rental fees of parts or fees for the performance both for chamber compositions and for orchestra composition). The competition is organized into three different sections: Section 1 – Chamber music Formations admitted: Piano solo (also prepared with discretion). Four-hand piano pieces are not allowed Solo Flute. The performer may use: piccolo, flute in C, flute in G Solo Violin DUO: Flute (piccolo, flute in C, flute in G) + violin DUO: Piano (also prepared with discretion; only one performer) + flute (piccolo, flute in C, flute in G) DUO: Piano (also prepared with discretion; only one performer) + violin TRIO: Piano (also prepared with discretion; only one performer) + flute (piccolo, flute in C, flute in G) + violin The length of the composition must be between a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes. Each candidate may present one or more compositions in the same category and/or different categories. Section 2 – String quartet Violin I, Violin II, Alto, Cello The length of the orchestra composition must not exceed 15 minutes; there is no minimum length. Section 3 – Organ Available type of instrument: Modern organ with an electric transmission (two / three keyboards). Assunta, organo Mascioni 1935-1995 The length of the composition must be between a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes. In all three sections (chamber music, string quartet, organ) the use of electronic disposals is not permitted, at all. Art. 3 – METHOD OF PARTICIPATION The candidates for the participation in the competition must pay a fee, under title of a donation, as a reimbursement of expenses of: 15 Euros (not refundable) for section 1 (chamber music) 20 Euros (not refundable) for section 2 (string quartet) 15 Euros (not refundable) for section 3 (organ) Fees can be sent: by Paypal to the address: http://www.ensemblenuovemusiche.eu/en/composition-competition To those who prefer to use the Paypal system we kindly ask an extra contribution of €. 1.00 to cover the system expenses. by bank transfer. In section 1, one 15 Euros fee allows you to send 3 scores; if you want to send more than 3 scores, please pay 2 Euros for each extra score. In section 2, one 20 Euros fee allows you to send 1 score. If you want to send more than 1 score, please pay a 20 Euros full fee for each extra score. In section 3, one 15 Euros fee allows you to send 1 score. If you want to send more than 1 score, please pay 2 Euros for each extra score. Art. 4 – TYPE OF SCORES The scores must be presented in PDF, they must be attached to the email they are sent from and they must be written preferably with a computer program (Finale, Sibelus, etc.). Handwritten and scanned scores are allowed, but if they are deemed illegible or not clear by the Jury Panel, they will be eliminated from the competition. In case of a not traditional notation, the score must have the relevant legend. The competition is not anonymous, therefore scores must quote the name of the composer. Art. 5 – HOW TO SEND THE ITEMS The items necessary to the participation must all be sent only by email in PDF format. The items are the following: Scores For the Trio compositions in section 1 besides the score, you must send the detached parts without any expenses by Ensemble Nuove Musiche Association. In section 2, on the expiry date of the competition (July 12, 2019), the applicant will have to send, in PDF, the score and the detached parts ready to use. Costs of sending the detached parts will not be supported by Ensemble Nuove Musiche Association. The receipt of payment (Euros 15 or 20), see above for method of payment. A brief biography of the candidate (only in English or Italian), personal details (date of birth, place of birth, etc.), a current photograph. All material must be sent to this email address: torrequardacompetition2019@gmail.com Art. 6 – COMPOSITION AND POWERS OF THE JURY PANEL For the 2019 edition the jury is as follows: PHILIPPE HUREL (Composer, President of the Jury Panel - France) STEFANO GERVASONI (Composer) GIORGIO COLOMBO TACCANI (Composer) PIER DAMIANO PERETTI (Organist - Composer) INGRID PUSTJANAC (Musicologist) Jury Panel substitutes will be named in case of necessity. The decisions of the jury are final (unquestionable and unappealable). Art. 7 – AWARDS Section 1 – CHAMBER MUSIC SECTION AWARD Three categories are included in this section: trio, duo, instrument solo; the Jury Panel will indicate the best compositions in each category. Among these three compositions, the best one will win the contest; a reimbursement for participation expenses will be awarded to the other two. Winner of section 1 (overall best composition): 1000 Euros and the performance of the score during the 7th edition of Festival Internazionale di Musica di Savona. The winning score, if not already published, will be published by Da Vinci Publishing/Osaka Mozart Association (Osaka – Japan). Reimbursements for the other two categories: 200 Euros (for each category) and the performance of the scores during the 7th edition of Festival Internazionale di Musica di Savona. The winning piece (overall best composition) will be performed a second time during the musical season organized by the Steinway Society - Garda Lake Area (Verona). Moreover, the panel may deem to indicate the best composition for piano solo, and it will be performed as part of the winners concert of the 32nd Concorso Pianistico “Città di Albenga” – IX Memorial Maria Silvia Folco, which will take place in December 2019 (http://concorsopianisticoalbenga.it/). Section 2 – “ROFFREDO CAETANI” SPECIAL AWARD Offered by Fondazione Roffredo Caetani. Winner of section 2: amount Euros 1000 and execution of the composition inside the 7th edition of Festival Internazionale di Musica di Savona. The winning score of string quartet section will be planned in France, during the season of ProQuartet- Centre européen de musique de chambre Paris. The winning score, if not already published, will be published (score and orchestra parts) by Da Vinci Publishing/Osaka Mozart Association (Osaka – Japan). Section 3 – ORGAN SECTION AWARD Winner of section 3: 1000 Euros and the execution of the composition during the 7th edition of Festival Internazionale di Musica di Savona. The jury reserves the right not to award any of the prizes if the level of the compostions is not deemed high enough. The compositions performed will be recorded (audio and video) and a copy will be sent to the candidates if they so wish. After the results of the competition have been published on the association web site (www.ensemblenuovemusiche.eu) and on Facebook site, the winners will be notified by email. There will be no notification for any other candidate. The award ceremonies of the winners of sections 1 and 2 will take place on the day of the quartet concert, during which only the winning piece of section 2 will be performed. For section 1, the performance of the winning piece and the two compositions that will receive a refund of the expenses, will take place in a different concert on another date (again as part of the VII edition of the International Music Festival of Savona). Since the concerts in section 1 and section 2 have different dates from each other, the winner of section 1 and the composers who have obtained the reimbursement of the expenses should be aware that the performance of their compositions and their award ceremonies will be held in different days. The winner of section 3 will be awarded on the day of the organ concert, during which the winning composition will be performed. Art. 8 – DEADLINES FOR ENTRIES Scores must be sent by not later than 12 a.m. (midnight) of 12th of July 2019. The exact sending time will be certified by the email time date according to the Italian time zone. All results will be known by 16th September 2019 on the Internet and on the Facebook page of the association. Applications incomplete or received after the deadline will not be taken into consideration, the admission fee will not be returned and no relevant notice will be given. Admission fees will be given back only in case of cancellation of the whole competition. Art. 9 – The participation to the competition Torre della Quarda 2019 implies the unconditional acceptance of the above regulations by all participants. Art. 10 - In the event of a challenge or a dispute, the only legal valid document is this call for competition in its Italian original, composed of 10 articles.
