Árpád Könczei, a composer and choreogra
pher, was born in 1959 in Margitta (Marghita,
Romania). From 1966 until 1978, he taught
composition in Kolozsvár (Cluj, Romania)
School of Music, and at the Gheorge Dima
Academy of Music. He also held a dance course
in Budapest from 1990 to 1992. Between 1984
and 1989, he was a dancer and choreographer
at the Studio Folk Ensemble at Sepsiszentgyörgy
(Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania). He was also a
dancer, choreographer, and director at the
Háromszék Dance Ensemble (1990–1995). From
1995 until 2013, he was an editor at Duna
Television in Budapest. In Marosvásárhely (Târgu Mureș), he was an artistic
director of the Maros Artistic Ensemble between 1999 and 2005. Since 2013, he
has been a freelancer artist. He also did work with different Theaters and dance
ensembles, in Romania and Hungary, like composers and choreographers. As
a composer, he was awarded the Uniter Prize in 2012 (Bucharest), and as a
choreographer the Harangozó Prize in Budapest, 2019.
