Máté Hollós studied composition at the Liszt
Academy of Music in Budapest from 1975 under
the tutelage of Emil Petrovics, graduating in
1980. A multi-award-winner, his prizes include:
the Audience Prize from the Rostrum of the
Hungarian Radio (1992); the Erkel Prize (1997),
the Bartók–Pásztory Award (1998); the Lyra
Prize (2000); the László Lajtha Prize (2004),
and the Frigyes Juhász Prize (2006). From 1980
to 1982, he was a Professor of foreign students
at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest,
and from 1980 to 1989, held the position of a
promotional expert at the Music Agency of
Artisjus. In 1989, following the fall of communism, he established a private
publishing house: Akkord Music Publishers. This was the first of its kind
in Hungary following 40 years of state monopoly over the industry; he has
remained its artistic director from its inception. He has held the position of
General Director and CEO of Hungaroton PLC since 2006. He was a board
member and Vice President of the Hungarian Composers’ Union from 1990 to
1996, was its President from 1996 to 2021, and honorary President from 2021.
He is also President of the István Vántus Society, a position he has held since
1996. Additionally, he has been a board member of the Artisjus Copyright
Society since 1999, the Vice President of the Hungarian Music Council since
2012, a board member of Jeunesses Musicales Hungary, Hungarian Art Music
Society, and has taught courses on copyright and publishing at the Liszt
Academy of Music in Budapest since 2013. Since 1980, he has been a frequent
contributor to numerous Hungarian musical and cultural periodicals and
journals and has made over a hundred radio programs and published three
books.
