Tamás Beischer-Matyó was born in Siklós
in 1972 and had already begun composing
by the age of nine. From 1987 to 1991 he at
tended the Pécs School of Arts. He enrolled
in the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in
1991, first studying music teaching and choir
leadership, then in 1992 he gained admission
to the composition department; he graduated
in both disciplines in 1997. From then until
2010, he taught music theory at the Béla
Bartók Secondary Music School in Budapest,
and since 1998 has taught transposition and
score-reading. Since 2002, he has taught music
theory at the Liszt Academy of Music. In 2000/2001 he received a scholarship
(stipendium) from the Internationales Künstlerhaus in Bamberg, and in 2010
he earned his doctoral degree in composition. He was awarded the Erkel
Prize in 2014, and two years later received the KÓTA Prize (Association of
Hungarian Choirs and Orchestras). He was awarded an art scholarship from
2018–2021 from the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
