András Gábor Virágh was born in 1984 in Budapest and is one of the most sought-after composer and organist of his generation. He has been a titular organist at the St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest, as well as an assistant lecturer in solfeggio, and form and analysis, at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. He is a board member of the Hungarian Composers’ Union. At the time of writing, his biggest recent achievements include receiving numerous do mestic awards, as well as three international composition prizes, including: 1st Prize at the Los Angeles International Composition Com petition in 2006; the Oradea International Composition Competition in 2008; and the ISA International Composition Competition in 2012. In 2007–2008, he was awarded a National Scholarship, and for 2010/2011 the Annie Fischer Per formers’ Scholarship. In 2009, he received the University of Debrecen’s Superior Student Award. In 2011, he was awarded the Junior Prima Prize, which is one of the highest honors bestowed on young musicians. He graduated in 2013 from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with a degree in composition, under the tutelage of Gyula Fekete. He has been awarded composition prizes from the Aurora Musis Amica Foundation, as well as from the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He was a two-time recipient of the Benedek Istvánffy Composition Prize (in 2015, and again in 2017), and would receive the Erkel Prize in the same year. Also in 2017, he wrote his Metamorphosis for 14 players for ensemble, at the invitation of the Warsaw Autumn Contemporary Music Festival, in celebration of its 60th anniversary. In 2018, the composition was aired more than 50 times by Radio France Musique. In 2020, he has awarded the Classical Composition of the Year award for his Gregorian Notes for Viola and Organ.
