Életrajz

Katalin Szalai was born in 1974. She studied composition with György Orbán at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, graduating in 2003. Following this, she taught music at both elementary and secondary music schools. Her interests are broad and span a variety of areas, including theater, psychology, and color theory. She received her MA in theater studies in 2013 from the University of Pannonia and has taught at the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Music since 2019. She has been a recipient of the Zoltán Kodály Scholarship three times (2004, 2005, 2007), as well as having won a number of awards in composers’ competitions, such as: the Reichenau Competition (2nd Prize, 1999); the LFZF Opera Competition (1st Prize, 2000); the LFZF Composers’ Competition (2nd Prize, 2001); the Foundation for Talented Hungarians (1st Prize, 2006), and the János Arany Memorial Year Competition (2nd Prize, 2018).
